2008 Diamondbacks Videos

I took old clips from different baseball books we have around the house as well as baseball photos of some of the coaches and my wife’s father from high school in the 1950’s to comprise the first half of the video with an edited version of James Earl Jones’s speech about baseball from Field Of Dreams.

The second half of the video is stills of each boy by uniform number to the tune of Take Me Out to the Ballgame on trumpet performed by George Rabbai from BASEBALL, A Film by Ken Burns.

I used Final Cut Pro with many different Magic Bullet Looks plugins for gate weave and film stuttering and other distressed looks. Photoshop, Illustrator and Audition were used for sounds. The old projector sound effect comes from iDVD sounds in the app that I extracted to use in Final Cut Pro.

The music choices were just as important as the visuals. The second video has a lot of fast-action video and stills baked together and timed with the music of Hotei, Battle Without Honor or Humanity. Video three was a real stretch, how to have a cool youth sports video while going with Yo-Yo Ma’s Prelude From the Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007. This piece appeared in the 2003 Film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. With the beauty of baseball and Yo-Yo Ma’s masterful performance the video worked. A few color shifts here, some soft focus there and that’s video number three.
